Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee. Discovered in the 10th Century by the Nomadic Mountain People who were the first to discover coffee’s stimulating properties. They ate the cherries and did not drink them as a beverage. The mystic Sufi pilgrims of Islam spread coffee throughout the Middle East. From the Middle East these beans spread to Europe and then throughout their colonial empires including Indonesia and the Americas.

Gelana Abaya wet mill is located just northwest of the town of Yirgacheffe, on the eastern slopes of the range of hills that separate Yirgacheffe from Lake Abaya.

This Yirgacheffe has achieved Q Grade 1 by the Ethiopian Commodity Exchange.
